Pilsbury Castle - 28th October

Post  Admin on Sun Aug 12, 2012 8:43 pm

Sunday 28th October - Pilsbury Castle
Historic remains and quiet villages are what we’ll find in this eight mile walk in the Upper Dove Valley. Starting from Hartington the route takes us past the remains of Pilsbury Castle on our way to the halfway point at Crowdecote, where we cross the River Dove into Staffordshire to make our return back to the start. Quite a few ascents on this walk as well as numerous stiles along the way too. Total walk time should be 4 and a half hours.

Details:-
Meet outside The Cheese Shop, Hartington, Derbyshire, SK17 0AL at 10.15 for 10.30 start. There are car parks in Hartington as well as plenty of on-street parking

I'm definitely wanting to go on this one, that's provided I can remember how to walk properly after all this time.

A lift from Walkley / Hillsborough would be appreciated.

Andrea and me are going to have something to eat on the way back at the Bulls Head at Monyash if anybody wants to join us. It's always decent grub there, and there's no need to book.

Is anyone going on the walk but not going for the meal afterwards.

I want to walk but don't want to eat, so if there is anyone that can offer a lift from Walkley/Hillsborough and is coming straight back then can they shout out. Otherwise I'll not be going.

Sorry Saul, it looks like everybody is eating. This is normally the case when we arrange a meal these days.

What a slippy slidey squelchy walk that was! Well done to everyone for staying upright! The Bulls Head was so welcoming with its open fire and lovely food. I missed Mrs Murfitt today Im sure she would have been screaming with laughter as we slid down that hill! Hope you get well soon Andrea.

The first half of the walk just seemed like it was just mud and difficult stiles, followed by more mud and even more difficult stiles. If todays amount of mud is anything to go by, goodness knows what it's going to be like when the real winter weather comes along Sad .
What a difficult walk this was thanks to those 2 things, and never has a hot bath been more welcome than today 98 .
At least we had the Bulls Head at Monyash to go to after the walk. As Caroline says the food was lovely, the fire was very welcoming and the staff superb.
Well done everybody who came today for their spirit and for all the help they gave to each other. It was nice to see.

An enjoyable walk today, despite the on off drizzle and the mud. Oh so many stile today, it been ages since I've been on a walk with so many.

A shame Andrea couldn't join us, I hope your feeling better soon.

The scenery and views today was well worth the slipping and sliding through the mud, well done to everyone for staying on their feet and helping others do so.

The food in the pub afterwards was loveley and a a great way to round off the day.
