Stanage Edge - 27th January

Post  Admin on Wed Oct 31, 2012 9:13 am

Sunday 27th January - Stanage Edge
An eight mile walk which starts by taking us all along the top of Stanage Edge, returning below it, then through Stanage Moor and North Lees back to the start. The route follows mainly good paths and tracks which can be muddy in places. The walk should take around 5 hours in total.

Details:-
Meet at 10.0 for 10.15 start at Car Park Grid ref 245828 near Cattisside Moor. From A625 from Sheffield, as you approach Hathersage take the first right signposted to the school. Climb out of Hathersage for about a mile and a half, the car park can be found at a left turn. Alternatively, there is another route out of Sheffield which means taking Ringinglow Road from Ecclesall Road, and then shortly after crossing over the border into Derbyshire, taking a right turn, and then after about half a mile or so, the carpark is on your right, on a junction

Cherry says that anybody going to the walk tomorrow would be better off going to the starting point via Ringinglow, and not from Hathersage in case there's still some snow. That's the way she is going from Tideswell.

We are coming through Ringinglow too, see you all there tomorrow. I have printed a couple of extra routes off if Cherry or anyone else wants them.

I think todays walk could be described as challenging but everyone was up for the task resulting in yet another
splendid day. Not a good day to forget my hat but, fortunately, our leaders were better organised than me, so thanks
Darren and Caroline. 7.36 miles according to my GPS for anyone who's interested.

Yes I agree it was challenging today and there were times when I felt like turning back but as always with this group everyone helps each other out and people laughing and joking lifts your spirits and helps you carry on.

Thanks to Darren for leading the walk and to everyone else for great company. Welcome also to our new walker today hope you will join us again.

Well to Mark on winning the draw!

Cya all next week hopefully x

Challenging? Definitely! It is a good group, its nice to know if you take a stumble or feel the need to sit down, that somebody will help you up. There were plenty of laughs, and a few odd comments about wet feet (think nearly all had wet feet). Cobwebs were certainly blown away. Did I make the right decision at the last minute, deciding to walk rather than go a run then do woodturning?... well, who knows but I did enjoy myself and slept well

Not been walking for a while but that certainly blew the cobwebs away and lost me a few pounds (i hope). What a great group we have, everyone helping each other when need be. The weather was a bit harsh at times but i'm so glad we managed to finish it instead of throwing in the towel so well done everyone 87 . Our leader was sadly missed today but hopefully it wont be long before he's back out walking again worship
It was lovely to see Roger & his wife. Very Happy

I managed a slow 1/2 a mile yesterday (a quicker mile today!), painted the pantry and cooked dinner so my Sunday wasn't entirely wasted. Nice for someone to say I was missed though, and thanks everybody for asking Andrea about me. Doing great ta!

Anyway, don't know what all the fuss is about, bit of snow and you'd think it was a trek across the Himalays you'd all been on Very Happy .

For members eyes only, Andreas photos are now in the Gallery above. (note the clear conditions and lack of snow!)
