Millthorpe - Sunday 8th Feb (New date!)

Post  Steve M on Mon Jan 26, 2015 7:51 am

Millthorpe - Sunday 8th Feb
This is an interesting walk of 8 miles which has an ascent of 300 metres in an unspoilt area which should take us roughly 4.5 hours to complete. The walk takes us from the lovely little hamlet of Millthorpe through Barlow Woodseats and Oxton Rakes on the way to Linacre Reservoir from where we return to the start via the hamlet of Unthank. Expect grassy paths and tracks, fields, bridleways, woodland and undulating hills on this fairly easy walk.

Meet outside the Royal Oak, Millthorpe, Holmesfield S18 7WJ at 10.0 for 10.15 start. There is on street parking just round the corner on Millthorpe Lane

Shorter 4-5 mile option if anybody fancies doing that instead. This might be plenty far enough with the amount of snow still about in Derbyshire.

#Mud mud glorious mud there's nothing quite like it for thinning the blood.#

In fact we were thankful when we got to some snow, at least it wasn't mud !!!!

A very enjoyable walk non the less with lots of laughs as usual :-)

Well, if we're going to burst into song today it's got to be #I'm just a gigolo, and everywhere I go# - you had to be there to understand this!

This has got to be the hardest walk I have ever had to follow from the ones we get from the Walking World website. Even though I've done it a few times before, it's not at all easy to follow, and I think a big thanks are in order to everybody who helped me today to decipher the rubbishy instructions.

Despite this, it's a really nice area to walk in and I thoroughly enjoyed the scenery although there seemed to be a lot more uphill than downhill Question Is this possible?

Glad we decided to go today really enjoyed the views the company and the sunshine, didn't enjoy the mud and the stiles (did anyone count them?) much though! But you can't have everything! Thanks to our leader for not getting us lost! And we actually found the holly tree yay! cheers
