Calver - Sunday 5th October

Post  Admin on Mon Sep 22, 2014 5:17 am

Sunday 5th October - Calver
A five hour walk covering 9 miles with just one steady ascent, and only 4 stiles! Including 2 lovely strolls alongside the River Derwent, the walk also takes in the delightful hamlet of Froggatt,  Froggatt Edge, Wellington monument and Baslow before returning to the start.

Details
Meet at Calver Bridge at 10.00 for 10.15 start. Calver Bridge is where the A623 crosses the River Derwent.  There is on-street parking near the church which is behind the Bridge Inn, postcode S32 3XA..

I've e-mailed Enid to see if they can help, I think they live up your way. I'll get back to you later.

Please add me to the list for tomorrow's Calver walk. Can give a lift if anyone wants from Crookes, Broomhill or Lodgemoor areas. Linda R

What a wonderful walk in beautiful country side. The views were spectacular.
It was so nice to see everyone again, it seems like ages since Steve and I walked.

Smashing, lovely, great, as Jim Bowen would have said about this walk!

Nice weather. good company, and fabulous views all day on one of my favourite walks. And what a lovely spot to have a drink down by the river in Baslow towards the end of the walk.

As everybody said, it didn't feel like 9 miles, but that's what it said on the instructions, so that's what it must be.

Nice to be able to say ta-ra to MicknSue before they go for their annual jaunt to Spain, and to say commiserations to them once again for not winning the raffle. Perhaps 2015 will bring better luck?

Apart from our lack of success on the lottery, today was a wonderful last Wanderers walk for us for this year; thanks, Steve, not only for today but also for your time and effort in the past.

See you all in the Spring. If you are going to be in the south east of Spain in the next few months, let us know via wilson241257@yahoo.co.uk and we could try to meet up. The camp site we stay on has some very good cabins; campingsierraespuna.com. What about a Wanderers weekend away - great walking on the doorstep with an English-speaking guide at very reasonable rates.

Mick and Sue

PS You must give me the number of the guy you ring to arrange the weather.
