Matlock - Sunday 13th July

Post  Admin on Thu Jun 12, 2014 7:43 am

Sunday 13th July - Matlock
An 8/9 mile walk which takes us from close to the centre of Matlock passed the Heights of Abraham and on to the village of Bonsall, before returning to the start via Arkwright Mill and Matlock Bath. The walk follows narrow woodland paths, field paths and unsurfaced lanes, has quite a number of stiles and should take around 5 and a half hours to complete.

Details:-
Meet at Artist Corner Car Park, Dale Road, Matlock DE4 3PS at 10.00 for 10.15 start.

I'll be along for this one, and can offer lifts for up to three people from city centre area before heading out along Abbeydale Road.

Might have someone needing a lift Neil, she's going to confirm on Friday if she wants one.

We've got a spare place also if anyone wants a lift from our end of town.

Shouldn't that be an earlier time as the walk start time is 10.15am?

Hilliest "flat" walk ever this one! I think whoever described this walk as flat had probably never been on it. Good job we didn't have any new walkers who were tempted by the easy walk description!

Some great views from up top on both sides of the valley as we took an extended route to High Tor and a view from t'other side that I'd never seen before. Really impressive it was.

Nice to have Jackie and Shaun along with us for the first time, and hopefully we'll see you again soon.

Bad luck to Millie for missing out on the raffle, but well done to Christine for having the winning ticket.

Off to write a letter to The Star now to tell 'em that their walk description is crap.  Evil or Very Mad

It was a joy to be out on such a lovely day, despite the hills, and with such good company. Thanks everyone.

Must agree with you Steve great flat, hilly walk. Views were brilliant. After we left you all we went up the hill again to the Heights of Abraham view point, on the way down we found a path that took us directly under the cable cars and into Matlock Bath.

We really enjoyed the day and even the unexpected Cote de Jenkin after the park.
We look forward to seeing everyone again in about 3 weeks.

I agree about the walk being flat...its like saying Mam Tor is a slight incline  Very Happy

Three times seeing the same farm is enough for anyone, especially when it was full of cow muck !

The highlights for me today - Feeding the Donkey.

- The amazing views.

-The yummy ice cream.

The downside- Leaving my stick in the park  Rolling Eyes

Hi Steve and Andrea,

Many thanks for a lovely but challenging walk for me today. Weather perfect. Had a bath to relax, probably aching muscles tomorrow (but worth it). Wine has defiantly helped.
Hope you have a lovely break.
