Tour de France Party - Sunday 6th July

Post  Admin on Sat Apr 19, 2014 8:16 am

Tour de France Party

Now here's something different for a Sunday, a group party to cheer on a set of cyclists! Seeing as half of Sheffield will be at a standstill, thus making it difficult for people to get to a walk, and the race itself coming straight past Wandering Heights, we thought we'd have our usual Summer Party on Sunday 6th July in the front garden, and not bother with a walk that day.

We'll be starting the party late morning and everyone's invited, but if you can, please let us know well in advance if you're coming, so we know how many to cater for. The cyclists are due to go past between 3.30 and 4.00 but I'm sure there'll be more to it than a 10 second blur going past!

More details are further down in this thread, so please read lower down to see what's happening if you don't mind.

If you're going to come along, please put your names down, and once you've done that, we'll help you work out how to get to us!

Names down. Steve, Andrea, Steve, Enid, Darren, Caroline, Kay, Natalia, Marilyn, Paul, Sue W, John, Jean, Alan, Debbie, Karen, Roger, Ewa, Alison, Colin, Mike, Jeanette.

I would think that it should take about an hour to walk. There will be buses to Hillsborough though to get you nearly half the way over.

Thanks for the invite, I would love to come! The razzamataz at the beginning is usually a good place to get a free water bottle when they chuck them out to the crowds!  Razz 87

Getting lots of interest for the party now, but unfortunately it's from people who don't really post on here! But never mind, it's the thought that counts so I'm sticking their names down for them!

Marilyn and Paul are joining us, as are Steve and Enid, who have made the suggestion that it would be a good idea if everyone brought something with them to the party. This is a great idea, and we're all for it, so here's what we're suggesting at the moment.

If people want to arrive at ours late morning that would be cool, and Andrea and me will lay on sandwiches for everybody for lunch. The riders are expected to pass by between 3.30-4.00, but there will be all sorts of vehicles passing for 2-3 hours before that, so there's bound to be a great atmosphere leading up to the cyclists arrival and will be well worth seeing. After they've passed by we can then start partying and get a bbq going, and other stuff. We'll provide the basics for lunch and the bbq like meat and cheese for sarnies, and burgers, sausages etc for the bbq, but if people want to bring some 'extras', then that would be great. Kay is going to bake a cake and bring it, and Steve and Enid are going to bring some Cajun coleslaw for instance. So anything along those lines would be much appreciated, providing you let us know in advance what you're bringing.

Marilyn is going to bring her guitar to serenade to us, and if anyone else has any singing or other talents, well, here's your chance to have a go at entertaining the troops!

If anybody wants to come up the night before and stay over, we've got 2 tents we can put up if you're prepared to rough it, so we can even start the celebrations the night before if anybody fancies it!

What we really need though is for people to put their names down asap so we can see how many we're going to have to cater for, so it would be much appreciated by me and her if you could pop your name down tout de suite as the French say!

As mentioned earlier we would love to join everyone so please put our names on your list. We will of course be happy to bring something with us. We will most likely be walking from Leppings Lane tram stop.

Many thanks John and Sue Warwick

We could do with names down sooner rather than later for this, due to the planning involved. Come 29th of this month we're going to close it off come what may!

If anybody's bringing chairs or food in advance, can you either bring them any time Friday, or between 10-2 Saturday.

Hope the weathermen have got the forecast wrong.  Crying or Very sad
