Biggin - Sunday 23rd March

Post  Admin on Sat Feb 15, 2014 8:27 am

Biggin - Sunday 23rd March
A brand new walk in the White Peak which takes us through 2 of Derbyshire's most beautiful limestone dales, Biggin Dale and Milldale. With just 180 metres of ascent this is a fairly easy 8 mile walk which should take 4.5 hours to complete.

Details:
Meet at Alsop station car park on the A515 at 10.0 for 10.15 start.

Yes please. If somebody can offer me a lift, I would be most grateful, otherwise I'll catch a bus, no problem.

The starting point isn't too difficult to find, in fact you've probably been there before because we've started from there quite a few times. The Tissington Trail goes through the car park in fact.

What you need to do is go to Monyash from Bakewell, and when you get into the centre of Monyash turn left at the crossroads on to Rakes Lane. This takes you to the A515 where you turn left towards Ashbourne. After 6 miles you'll see a signpost on the left saying Alsop Station to the left, and Alstonfield and Milldale to the right. Turn left and you're taken straight to the meeting point. Just like that!

Steve, so sorry, I think I may have to cancel for tomorrow, I have a bit of a cold (my nose has), and since it will probably rain, I think I shouldn't risk it, just in case....

Looks like the weather's probably going to mainly be ok tomorrow, with perhaps a light shower in the afternoon. Going back a few years to when we first did this walk, we set out on a sunny Spring day and by the time we got half way round we met a snowstorm, and had to take cover in the pub (any excuse!), absolutely soaked through to the skin. After half an hour the sun came out again and we carried on!

What an interesting day weather-wise. Talk about all four seasons in one day! Lots of sunshine though, and that's all that matters.

Some great scenery today and the 2 pub stops were really welcome, especially the Bulls Head at the end of the walk when everybody seemed sooooooo chilled  Smile

The walk today was lovely, but when the hail came my god did it come down. Archie just stood on the path and wouldn't move so Steve had to carry him until it stopped  Rolling Eyes

Wolfs Cote Dale was stunning as usual, there was so many Daffodils all over the place and not as many people as I thought there might be.

Well done to Steve and Enid for winning the draw, hope Enid got her share  Very Happy
