Sunday 2nd December - Walk, Cruise and meal (3 spare places)

Post  Admin on Fri Sep 07, 2012 9:54 am

Sunday 2nd December, Whaley Bridge walk to be followed by a cruise and a meal!

To get us into the Christmas spirit we have arranged for a cruise and meal to follow a short 4/5 mile morning walk in the High Peak area of Derbyshire on Sunday 2nd December.

The Judith Mary is a 72 foot long canal boat which can seat up to 40 passengers, and is fully central heated and runs every day of the year.
It has a well stocked licensed bar, and also offers tea and coffee and has toilets on board. (See [Only admins are allowed to see this link]

For the meal we have chosen the Winter Warmer option, a homemade local Hot Pot, with crusty French bread and red cabbage – plenty of seconds available! – followed by delicious Hot Apple Pie and Cream at only £12.00 per person a price which includes the 2 to 2 and a half hour cruise along the beautiful Upper Peak Forest Canal. There is also a vegetarian option of Stilton and Brocolli bake which is also suitable for celiacs.

The cruise will commence at 1pm and early booking is recommended, as we do not have sole use of the boat, and it may get booked up well in advance. Reservations will only be accepted upon full payment of the £12.

Please let us know as soon as possible if you are interested.

*Walk Details*
Lyme Park, East Lodge and The Cage
This is a delightful 5 mile walk within Lyme Park which takes in Lyme Hall, it's East Lodge and The Cage. The hall was originally a Tudor house but the Venetian architect Leoni re-designed it into a palace in the Italian style. You may well see some of the red and fallow deer in the parkland for they are everywhere, which is why the gates are sometimes locked and at others open. The Cage, reached towards the end of the walk, was built as a hunting tower, while the house featured as 'Pemberley' in the recent BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.

Details
Meet at the information centre in the car park of Lyme Hall at 9.30 for 9.45 start. The address is Lyme Park, Stockport SK12 2NX. The entrance to Lyme Park is on the A6, 12 miles north of Buxton..

Just found a fascinating walk on the Walking World website which is close to Whaley Bridge and at 5 miles long looks ideal for this day. The walk is called Lyme Park, East Lodge and The Cage.

Lyme Park has a house which was built in Tudor times and also has fallow and red deer roaming in it's grounds. East Lodge is situated on part of the 1300 acre estate, as is The Cage which was built as a hunting tower, is situated on top of a hill and has great views from it across the surrounding countryside. Although the walk is only 5 miles in length, the total ascent is 260 metres and won't be just a stroll in the park!

I can't come

Post  Anne C on Wed Sep 12, 2012 12:22 am

Think you'll have to count me out. I have been persuaded to run the Precy Pud that day and whilst it starts at 9.30am by the time I've done it, collected tshirt etc, got home and showered, then I think I'm pushing it to get to Whaley Bridge in time.
Sounds fun, sorry I can't be there santa

Percy Pud is right! Its a 10k run from Loxley to Low Bradfield and back (Admiral Rodney to Plough and back). You get a t-shirt and a Christmas Pudding, (which I won't be able to eat), if you complete it. Supposedly very popular and entered by 1000's, so many entrants that last year they closed applications after 3 weeks, so there's a chance I may not be able to do it......shame! rendeer

Ermm, we don't work on "shoulds". Coulds, woulds, mights and oughts are also no-no words. Will or won't, can or can't, shall or shan't are ok - we understand them and can either add someone or discount them when these words are used.

So in a nutshell, are we putting your name down Mr Mack, or are we waiting until you should be able to tell us for definite????

Please advise kind sir.

I think waiting was probably the correct option..its the only one that made any sense.

Nearly full!

Post  Steve M on Mon Oct 22, 2012 6:23 am

Amazingly, we've now got 33 names down for this event, which is a fantastic number seeing as we only initially booked 20 places!

Anyway, if you're thinking of coming and haven't put your names down yet, you'd better do it soon cos there are only 7 places left now!

It'd be great if we could fill it!
