Ughill Moor - Sunday 9th February

Post  Steve M on Mon Jan 13, 2014 6:22 am

Sunday 9th February - Stanage Edge Ughill Moor and Strines
Due to the possibility of severe flooding on Stanage, we'll be going in the opposite direction from Moscar towards Bradfield and leave doing Stanage Edge for another day. The new walk will take us across Ughill Moor towards the Strines reservoir and then down to Dale Dyke.

Details:-
Meet on a track which heads off to the left in a northerly direction above Moscar Heights. Coming from Sheffield, turn off  the A57 about 100 yards after Moscar Edge kennels (S6 6GL) on the right. If you pass the old Methodist church you've gone too far! Follow this road for a short way around 2 bends, and the track goes off to the left on the third bend. Parking is available both on the track, and on a hardcore car park a little further on. Meeting time is 10.00 for 10.15 start.

A new walk, and I'm looking forward to it. Anyone with any knowledge of the route will be warmly welcomed!

Go on then I will put my name down first. Any lifts required just let me know. I may set off at 6 in case I get lost again. I ended up going to Retford after the last one. I just love the A1.

Thank you Mark and Roger for putting your names down first - I was waiting for somebody to do that before I say I am in. So yes I am in, too, and would be grateful for a lift.

Thank you Roger. And please do tell these men who are making fun of me not being able to read maps that we were simply enjoying the nice views along A1 (or whatever this road is called).

Changing the route on this one because Stanage is going to be absolutely flooded. Still the same meeting place but we're going to be going right instead of left, and heading towards The Strines, and then down towards Bradfield. Still a beautiful walk, but hopefully less wet and muddy.

Well didn't we do well?

Blooming awful weather for the first two hours, but after that it felt like Summer  sunny  - sort of!

I think we all deserve a pat on the back cos it wasn't easy today, but I'm sure that it wasn't as bad as Stanage would have been, so at least we've got that consolation. Very little deep mud for once, but water, water and loads more water made the walk interesting to say the least!

Now does anybody know anywhere that we can do an 8 mile walk where there's no mud or standing water?

I am glad I decided to do the full route yesterday - it was worth it!!! Sunny, as Steve says, we could have gone swimming if we wanted to... Nice company, wonderful lunch with geese and ducks, tea with chocolate, an Italian (or Irish?) cattery guarded by a dog...

His trousers kept falling down, so it wasn't pleasant for the rest of us who did the shorter walk.

We had a good laugh when I ended up on my hands and knees in the mud and again when Jean went knee high in the stream  Very Happy
