Anston Stones Wood - Sunday 16th Feb

Post  Steve M on Mon Jan 13, 2014 6:19 am

Sunday 16th February - Anston Stones Wood
This 8 mile walk includes some outstanding features which are not to be missed! From the pretty village of South Anston we follow the Chesterfield canal for a while to the picturesque hamlet of Turnerwood. After passing the partially ruined Shireoaks Hall, the return route takes us up Lindrick Dale with its fine houses and gardens before going through the breathtaking ancient Anston Stones Wood, a Site of Special Scientific Interest. This is a fairly easy walk with very few climbs and should take around 4.5 hours to complete.

Details:-
Meet outside St James Church, Sheffield Road, South Anston, Rotherham S25 5DU at 10.0 for 10.15 start. There is plenty of on street parking locally

***Meal arranged at The Loyal Trooper in South Anston for anyone who fancies it after the walk***

There's a meal arranged for after the walk at The Loyal Trooper in South Anston if anybody is interested. Please say if you want your name putting down for it when you add your name to the walk.

Hard to believe, looking out the window and watching the weather warnings, but Sunday's not looking so bad at the moment!

A mud-free walk, yippee  cheers , well, relatively speaking compared with the last 3 walks. How an 8 miler became 9.83 miles I've no idea, but that's what the GPS said!

I really enjoy walking in this area, and especially like Turnerwood, Lindrick Dale, Shireoaks Marina and the canyon in Anston Stones Wood. It proved today that you don't necessary need hills to make a good walk.   Very Happy

What a nice change to walk in the sunshine, and what a lovely place to do it in.

Its always nice to visit Turner wood and see the swans.

The food was good at the "Loyal Trooper" and very much needed after the walk.
