Wharncliffe Crags - Sunday 8th December

Post  Admin on Tue Nov 12, 2013 6:11 am

Wharncliffe Crags - Sunday 8th December
A steady 9 mile walk, with just one gradual climb and a small hill at the end, and some of the best views in Sheffield from the top of the Crags along the way. Greno Woods are also part of this walk, and also a section of it is along an old roman road. The walk should take around 4 and a half hours to complete.

Details:-
Meet outside The Old Harrow, Main Street Grenoside, S35 8PP at 10.0 for a 10.15 start. Plenty of on-street parking close by, please do not park in the pub car park

I want to -- and hope -- come to this one. I hope I will be in a 'walkable' form after a day spent in the London libraries on Saturday from 07:30 till 19:00. But I do want to come.

I cant believe we did 9 miles, it only felt like 5. No sooner had we set off then we were getting back Rolling Eyes

The pub stop at the Old Harrow was good, as always as was chatting to Mr Osborne from Hollyoaks Smile

If I had to choose a favourite all time place to walk, then it would be Wharncliffe Crags. Walking there regularly from High Green with my parents when we didn't have a car, and then on my own with dozens of local kids in the school holidays has given me a lifelong love for the place which I'll never lose. And it never changes, which is the great thing about the place. Hardly any people, and totally unspoilt yet only about 5 miles from the centre of Sheffield!

What a sentimental old sod! eh I'll be craving horlicks for supper, izal toilet paper and brylcreem next giggle

Good crowd, and a nice drink in the Harrow made it a perfect day too.
