Worsbrough/Wentworth Castle - Sunday 6th January

Post  Admin on Tue Nov 12, 2013 5:59 am

Worsbrough/Wentworth Castle - Sunday 5th January
Lots of history on this walk which starts at the 17c corn mill at Worsborough, and takes us via Rockley Engine House, a 200 year old blast furnace which housed one of the first Newcomen engines before reaching Wentworth Castle with its monuments and follies. From there we return to the start via Worsborough Country Park. 8 miles in total on a mainly flat route which should take about 4 and a half hours to complete.

Details:-
Meet at 10.00 for 10.15 start at the Worsborough Country Park car park situated on the A61 just over 2 miles from Barnsley. The car park is opposite The Button Mill Inn, Park Road, Worsbrough, S70 5LJ.

Yes, good idea Roger! Blow the cobwebs away with some fresh air & try to loose the pounds you've probably gained over Xmas! Could I possibly get a lift from you Roger? Alison

A lovely first walk of the year. Would like to do it again maybe later in the year. I can't believe we came across two Kingfishers today. It was lovely to catch up with everyone & also win the draw, yippee  Very Happy

Ditto what Daz has said regarding the kingfishers, they are an amazing sight when you see one flying.

But omg, what a lotta mud. How on earth no-one went down in it surprised me, and I think a big well done  cheers  is in order for this achievement.

Some good laughs today, especially at the 'horse incident!' Poor Sheila, she just couldn't work out how she was getting nuzzled by a friendly horse while she was climbing a stile, which was also nipping her bum at the same time  Smile . Sssshhhhh............

So glad we made the effort today. Apart from the mud it was a great walk to get us back into it. Some fantastic buildings out that way nice to see the restoration work that has been done. Was a real treat to see not one but two kingfishers today! Great to catch up with everyone and meet a lovely new walker Jo who I hope will join us again. Some laughs today provided by friendly horses! Well if you will feed them apples they will follow you lol  Laughing

A great walk for the first one of the year, just a shame you could here the motorway during most of it.

I have to agree about the horse incident, so funny  giggle Lets hope we have many more laughs in the coming year.

It was lovely to meet Josephine today, I hope she will come again soon  Smile
