Nice to have some late bookers on board, should be a good walk looking at the weather forecast.

Really enjoyed this walk. Who'd have thought that we were only a few miles from the city centre amongst all that lovely scenery.

A poor show from The Three Merry Lads with our food after the meal. 35 minutes for a chip butty to appear??? Lots of other little things too, which at top prices is not what you expect.

Stone sign at Redmires

Post  Steve M on Sat Nov 09, 2013 7:40 am

I was asked on the walk today to try and find out some info about a stone sign we saw at the side of the road, and here is what I found.

As I thought, it was a pub sign which used to live above the door of the pub, and is all that remains from the pub itself. The pub's name was the 'Grouse and Trout' as depicted on the sign itself. (We thought the grouse was a duck!). The pub was built in 1828, closed in 1934 and was demolished in 1957.

The wording underneath the sign which we couldn't make out says 'I Serve Dinner'.

All this information came from The Sheffield Forum!
