Langsett - Sunday 13th October

Post  Admin on Fri Aug 16, 2013 10:21 pm

Langsett - Sunday 13th October
2nd new walk for the group in a row is this 10 mile trek across the moors at Langsett. Although described as 'easy' in the instructions, there is a total ascent of 600 metres, and the walk which takes us along little-used paths to Margery Hill and Outer Edge, could take up to 6 hours to complete. The rewards though are spectacular views throughout the walk and the opportunity to get close to the source of the River Don.

Details:-
Meet at Langsett Barn car park, just after the Waggon and Horses pub, S36 4GY at 9.30 for 9.45 start. (Slightly earlier start than normal due to the length of the walk).

***Please note: There are 5 and 7 mile alternatives for anybody who doesn't feel that they can do the whole 10 miles***

Really looking forward to this walk because Langsett is one of my favourite places to walk. Fingers crossed though for the weather, although I doubt whether it'll be as nice as the last 2 Sundays sunny .

Lifts available if anybody needs one or wants to car share.

Roger will be on this one. I'm still in Nether Edge for next few weeks, so anyone who wants picking up just let me know.drive drive drive hiker

Good to know I am not the first one to put my name down for this walk! I would be grateful for a lift - Steve, is that an option, or is that not too convenient for you this week?

No problem Natalia. But if anyone near to you puts their name down and can offer you a lift, we'll let them!

Of course Steve, we will let them have the honour of my company - but alternatively, if you and Andrea and Archie are the lucky ones, could you just tell me where it would be best for you to pick me up on your way out of town? I wouldn't want you to make a detour or drive around because of me. No

Sorry about the earlier post, I just wondered whether there might only be 3 of us the way things were going and perhaps I was going to have a day doing some overdue diy Sad .
8 up to now is fair enough so we'll definitely go for it cheers

Sorry, I can't sort my life out as fast you guys! I was just wondering how the 5 /7 mile option would work for me? Will I be sent off on my own with a compass or will I be near a landmark where I can get a bus home or something? Heard so many good things about Langsett but don't think I can do another 10 miler just at the mo! I bet that sounds so lame!

The shorter options leave the main walk after either 2 or 3 miles, and the route back is quite easy to follow so you'll have no worries there.

Getting you home isn't quite as simple, because there's no public transport up that way. Just hang on and see if anybody else puts their name down for the shorter ones, there's several people who are thinking about them at the moment.
