Tideswell - 2nd September

Post  Admin on Sun Aug 12, 2012 8:51 pm

Sunday 2nd September - Tideswell
Starting and ending in Tideswell, this 8 and a half mile walk goes through some of the loveliest Dales in Derbyshire. Monks Dale, Peter Dale, Millers Dale and Tideswell Dale are all on the route as are parts of the Monsal Trail, and the Wye Valley. After the walk, for those who fancy a sumptious meal, we'll be calling in at the George Inn at Tideswell where we have had some great meals previously !

Details:-

Meet outside The Horse and Jockey, Gordon Road, Tideswell SK17 8JZ at 10.0 for 10.15 start.

Meal details!

Post  Steve M on Wed Aug 22, 2012 8:57 am

The George Inn at Tideswell are going to put a special meal on for 4pm on the day of the walk, just for our benefit if anybody fancies it. Here's the details:-

Choice of homemade meat or vegetable pie with either chips or mash and vegetables, complete with a pint or a soft drink for £6.50. Surprised

Sounds pretty good to me, but it has to be ordered in advance, so we'll need names down by 12 noon the day before at the latest.

Any takers, apart from Andrea and me?

I remember the last time we went for a meal in the George, it had rained for most of the walk and we were all soaked to the skin. I changed my top in the back of Dez's car.... he got a right eye full , sorry Dez Shocked

Names Down!

Post  Steve M on Sat Sep 01, 2012 11:27 pm

Can't accept any more names for the food I'm afraid cos the pub have had to be given the numbers, but obviously it's not too late for anyone to put their name down for the walk.

The 26 who will be eating are Andrea, Steve M, Jean, Michelle H, Roger, Pam, Max, Chris, Linda R, Kay, Angie, Darren, Caroline, Steve H, Carol, John (new), John, Angela, Mick, Maria, Simon, Vicky, Debbie, Dez, Lynne, Tyler.

Should be a lovely day.

Did we really do 10 and a half miles today ?
It seemed a tough one because of all the stiles, slippy lime stone paths and mountains of cow s**t. I never want to have to walk through that much of it ever again Mad
The food in the George was good but I would have liked a bit more of it. I enjoyed the ice cream from the kind lady who stopped her van for us.....yum yum yum !

Toast for tea!

Post  Steve M on Mon Sep 03, 2012 6:49 am

Aye, just having some toast for tea as although the food at the George was nice, there just wasn't enough of it for this growing man!

Tiring walk today thanks to the unbelievable amount of mud, and the dozens of stiles, and the unintentional extended bit Embarassed . But I think we all did really well to do the 10.5 miles in 5 hours all in all. cheers to the 24 who turned up and to Angela for winning a cool £20 in the raffle.

Archie hasn't moved since we got home but I think he's quite happy dreaming about the 2 fresians he made friends with 🐷 (sorry, no cow emotive!)

SteveM was in such a rush to get to the pub that he forget to retrieve my Wanderers' walkie -talkie - do you need it in deepest Lincolnshire?

Just like to say it was nice to see everybody again old faces and new, hopefully it wont be as long next time, nice walk and good company and although there could have been a little more food it was very tasty, so on that note see you all soon and i hope those of you that are going away have a nice weekend. Very Happy
