Linacre Woods - 9th June

Post  Admin on Mon May 13, 2013 7:07 pm

Sunday 9th June - Linacre Woods
This is an interesting walk of 8 miles in an unspoilt area which should take us roughly 4.5 hours to complete. The walk takes us from Linacre Reservoir through the woods to the lovely little hamlet of Millthorpe from where we make our way back to the start via Oxton Rakes. Expect grassy paths and tracks, fields, bridleways, woodland and undulating hills on this fairly easy walk.

Details:-
Meet at the Lower of the three Car Parks at Linacre Reservoir (car parks are signposted off the B6050 on the way out of Chesterfield through Cutthorpe). No postcode for this walk but it's easy enough to find providing you get the correct road out of Chesterfield! Meet at 10.0 for 10.15 start

Well I think today we saw every type of stile known to man, and why is it that at the top of a really big hill there is always a difficult one Mad

The wild flowers were beautiful today, I hope Daz managed to capture some of them on camera.

Not too keen about the cows who took a shine to us though hiker

The pub stop for dinner was really nice and FREE chips....well for some of the group anyway bliss

What a colourful walk today! I have never seen so many buttercups! The bluebells were also beautiful today lovely to see them out. Also saw some beautiful property today if only we could afford it! Thanks to Steve and Darren for so expertly guiding us today - it wasn't easy! Photos will be posted later Very Happy

A big thank you to everybody for bearing with Darren and me today whilst we tried to follow the worst set of walk instructions ever produced by Walking World. Evil or Very Mad

This is the third time I've done this walk, and the third time I've had to use map reading skills to get us back on track (several times), and more or less forget about the written instructions. As Linda pointed out, this was fine on a nice day like today, but adding an extra hour and half on to a 4 hour walk when it was tiddling it down wouldn't have been nice.

Still, everybody seemed to enjoy the walk which was a good thing cos for sure, I AIN'T DOING IT AGAIN!

Lovely area though, and some really lovely houses and delightful hamlets along the way as well as a pub which at 12.45 on a Sunday was completely empty Surprised

The buttercup photos are amazing. Never seen so many in my life, or wild garlic flowers come to think of it.

Some proper poseurs on display today, including Archie Boy. Nice Lulu impression from Linda when she had that hat on!
