Marsden Moor - Sunday 5th May

Post  Admin on Tue Apr 09, 2013 8:01 am

Sunday 5th May - Marsden Moor
A completely new walk to the group in the South Pennines this one is, but yet it's still less than an hour from Sheffield. This is a walk of high variety, from high Pennine moorland and edge-walking, to river and canal banks. It also passes Standedge tunnel, which is the longest and deepest tunnel in the country, and goes along both the Kirklees Way and the Pennine Way. 9.5 miles altogether, the walk should take about 5 hours. There will also be the opportunity to have a bit to eat at the end of the walk at the Railway pub for anyone who fancies it.

]Details
Meet at The Railway pub, 34 Station Rd, Marsden, HD7 6DH at 10.0 for 10.15 start. On-street parking available close by, also at Marsden station car park.

Names for food:-
Steve, Andrea, Lucy, Darren, Caroline, Linda S, Cherry, Debbie + 1, Chris, Linda R, Kay, Barbara, Hilary, Angie (15)

I'm up for this one. It may turn out to be a bit of a childhood nostalgia trip!
Thanks for my first trip out in Grenoside Woods. Had a great time.

As I'm leading the walk and have never been to this area before any local knowledge would be more than welcome.

Just spoken to the landlord and advised him that there could be 15-20 of us in the pub for food next Sunday between 3.30 and 4.0. Neutral. Hope I'm better at guessing numbers and times than I was picking winners at Owlerton on Friday Very Happy .

Fantastic turnout today on this completely new walk which was a bit of a step into the unknown really. A big thank you guys for coming on this one, hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did.

A big welcome to Helen who joined us for the first time, and also to Lucy on her first Sunday walk. You sure know how to pick 'em!

Great walk. Hope Caroline is feeling okay and knee swelling has gone down. But how great was it that she could get a boat to finish Was lovely to catch up with people. The weather was kind to us, we'll the rain kept off. Legs ache now but good prep for next week. Smile

We left Sheffield in glorious sunshine and we didn't see it again for most of the day, but at least it didn't rain Smile
This is a walk we will have to do again as the views were amazing.
A big welcome to Helen, always nice to put a face to a name.
Got two sleeping boys here, ones snoring and the other one is having his tummy rubbed.....I will let you decided which one What a Face

Really enjoyed today, so glad it didn't rain cos we went prepared for sunshine! Nice to catch up with some people we haven't seen for a while. Thanks to Angie and Linda for lending me their sticks after I took a tumble and hurt my knee - it feels much better after a soak in bath - now got my feet up with glass of wine! Enjoyed our little ride on the canal boat even if we did look like prats! (thanks Steve) thanks to the railway pub also for giving us a corner to sit in and doing a great job! All in all a great day thanks everyone. Very Happy

Great walk in a place unknown to us, amazing views all round. What a difference the weather can be from one area to another, as approaching the Flouch roundabout the sun went in and we did'nt see it again until returning through Holmfirth, had a nice welcome drink sat in a nice sunny beer garden thawing out. Hope Caroline's knee is'nt too bad and hope Darren is nursing you better with more wine. Nice to meet two new faces. Thanks Steve for leading a great walk.

What a lovely walk this was & great turn out for it. I have nursed my better half's knee for her & she is now jumping around the house like a giddy kipper lol! . Nice to catch up with everyone yesterday & have a few giggles along the way. The boat ride back was most welcoming cos i was starting to feel knackered.

I hope you enjoy my photos. This week you will need to log in & view them in the gallery Wink

Thanks for sharing the pics Darren. The ones of the 'scramble' are particularly good, but overall you can see what a wild place it is up there.
