Post  Admin on Sun Aug 12, 2012 8:48 pm

Sunday 23rd September - Worsborough/Wentworth Castle
Lots of history on this walk which starts at the 17c corn mill at Worsborough, and takes us via Rockley Engine House, a 200 year old blast furnace which housed one of the first Newcomen engines before reaching Wentworth Castle with its monuments and follies. From there we return to the start via Worsborough Country Park. 8 miles in total on a mainly flat route which should take about 4 and a half hours to complete.

Details:-
Meet at 10.00 for 10.15 start at the Worsborough Country Park car park situated on the A61 just over 2 miles from Barnsley. The car park is opposite The Button Mill Inn, Park Road, Worsbrough, S70 5LJ.

Sunday Lunch anybody?

Post  Steve M on Fri Sep 14, 2012 8:04 am

Sunday lunch will be available for anybody who wants it at the Cock Inn at Birdwell after the walk. We used this pub the last time we were in the area and the food was spot on. No carvery this time though, just traditional sunday lunch with the choice of beef, turkey or a veggie option for £5.95 each. Desserts are £2.50.

Meals must be ordered in advance with the pub at 12.0 Saturday so if you're interested please let us know asap, also telling us which one of the 3 options you would like.

Names down
Steve - beef
Andrea - veggie
Linda S - turkey
Roger - beef
Anne C - beef
Hilary - veggie
Max - beef
Dez - beef
Tyler - beef
Lynne - turkey
Karen - beef
Steve H - beef
Carol H - beef
Debbie - turkey
Pam - turkey
Angie - beef

Count me in please. Beef dinner, no pud. Their meals last time were lovely and very good value, shame its not carvery but if the dinner is anywhere near as good we'll all be happy. Will we get chance to see a bit of Wentworth Castle this time? I think we skirted it last time

From memory I don't think you can see the Castle properly unless you pay to go in the gardens. (I might be wrong though!). We certainly walk past it, and I think there's a restricted view of it at least.

Need to know which option you want Hilary for the dinner. Something tells me that you're a vegetarian, so if I don't hear from you that's what I'll order. Can anybody confirm this, only I've been trying to get an answer from Hilary since earlier in the week. Crying or Very sad

I know that I'm biased, but apart from the weather, today was a perfect Sunday for me. And the weather could have been a lot worse I suppose. At least it didn't rain.

Hats off to the Cock Inn for serving us with superb food at a very reasonable price too. And unlike the Ashford Arms last week, at least they wanted us in the pub!

Highlight of the day for me though was the herd of red deer charging through the woods next to where we were walking. What a great sight that was to see Shocked
