Post  Steve M on Thu Feb 07, 2013 9:09 am

Shire Brook Valley - Thursday 14th March
Shire Brook Valley, Linley Bank Meadow and Beighton Marsh are featured in this 5 mile walk which has good paths and is completely flat. There is lots to see on this walk including signs of the areas' industrial heritage, and an abundance of wildlife in the various ponds in the valley.

Details
Meet at Shirebrook Reserve Visitor Centre off Stone Lane, Woodhouse at 10.00. From city centre or M1 join A57 Mosborough Parkway and at the 1st roundabout take 1st left signposted for Woodhouse, and then after 250 yards turn right on to Stone Lane.

Yet another fabulous day for a walk. Great to see so many on this walk, with 2 'old' walkers joining us for the 1st time. Thanks to Colin for putting me right on one or 2 turns I wasn't quite sure about 65
The icing on the cake was the 2 meals for £5.75 at the end, although how Colin got away with being a pensioner I'll never know! rg

Well if you paid £5.75 for your 2 meals you were done Hemmy, cos Esselle and me only paid £5.50 for ours Very Happy . Great value yet again though as you say, although I had mixed feelings about the Pensioners offer. Being almost old enough to qualify for one was bad enough, but encouraged by others off I went to pretend to be a coffin dodger, only to be told I didn't look old enough by the landlord. The last time I tried to pretend I was older than I was, I was 17!
So on the one hand I was quite pleased I didn't look like a retiree, but on the other hand it looked like I was going to have to pay full price for my grub!
In the end the guy allowed me to be a honarary senior citizen and claim my 'Pensioners meal', and to celebrate I had a good rant about the price of things, young people, foreigners and that things aren't the same as they used to be Laughing
Oh and before the meal we had a lovely, muddy ( Sad ) walk through the Beighton nature reserves, mostly in lovely sunshine.
Now where else can we get some decent grub at @ 2 for a fiver???
